An ideal way to organize your prototyping SMT components is to use these small aluminum cups. Each 1-1/4" cup has its own easily removeable friction fitted transparent lid and are housed in an aluminum hinged lid case. Included in each pack is a sheet of small adhesive backed labels, enough for you to label both the lid and the cup with the component part numbers and still have have labels to spare. These are the same 'component bin feeders' (CBF20) supplied with the popular ezPick SMT component pick and place system.
